Terrible customer service
I have been a Venmo member for the past year with no complaints until last week. On Thursday I reported an unauthorized payment of $180 which somehow originated from my account to a payee not in my contacts. I immediately changed my password and PIN as my account had been compromised. Venmo froze my account, then asked for a photo of my drivers license in an email. I did so and today, 3 days after the fraudulent payment, Venmo permanently cancelled my account for violation of terms. When I called customer service, they claimed that their policy did not allow them to handle disputes by phone. Unbelievable. Not only will I never see my $180 again, but I guess I somehow violated my contract without even doing anything! It’s just as well that my account is cancelled as I would have cancelled it myself. Venmo at your own risk! I regret that I did.
